If we put a man on the moon in a decade, we can do this

At TDP, we’re on a mission to catalyze our nation’s talent, innovation and grit with the goal of having American entrepreneurship and business ownership look like America in terms of the race, ethnicity and gender of our population by 2035.

if business ownership looked like America We could have…

$4T increase in our annual GDP

20 million more jobs

2 million more businesses

We all win

States whose business ownership more closely reflects their population have 2.5 times higher GDP than those who don’t.

2025 marks the start of the decade

Today, we’re committed to amplifying the ownership opportunity and commitment to the goal; developing scalable, data-driven business opportunities that leverage all of our nation’s talent, grit and determination; and cultivating an ecosystem to mobilize support.

Our Approach

Amplifying the Opportunity

See what the opportunity is for you and your community.

Scaling Ownership Opportunities

Follow the money.

Mobilizing Resources

Be a Catalyst.

Scaling Ownership Opportunities

To scale the ownership opportunity for every entrepreneur, we’re:

  • Tracking where public and private funding is flowing.

  • Identifying business models ripe for launch and scaling in your communities.

  • Convening national partners to identify catalytic interventions, including innovative financial products, to provide access to the right capital at the right time for founders to launch and business owners to grow and scale their businesses.

  • Cultivating an ecosystem so all entrepreneurs and business owners have access to the right tools and community to succeed: (1) diversified capital stack, (2) mentorship, (3) upskilling learning opportunities, (4) an engaged professional network and (5) a belief in themselves to do it.

Moonshot to 2M

To achieve this moonshot, we need to fire on all four cylinders. Research shows that catalytic actions need to happen simultaneously if an entrepreneur is to succeed:

  • Role Models

    I CAN DO IT

When we see someone in our family or community succeed as a business owner, we are more likely to believe we can succeed as well.

  • Financial Capital

    I HAVE THE CAPITAL.

Most Black & Latin founders have little to no startup capital due to low household wealth. At the same time, BIPOC and female- led businesses receive a small percentage of available VC and working capital loans.

  • Upskilling

    I HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE

Two-thirds of all businesses report that they want additional education, and 41% self describe as financially illiterate.

  • Connections

    I HAVE THE CONNECTIONS

Entrepreneurs who have access to mentors are 3x times more likely to succeed. Improved margins and growth come from supply chain mastery.

We see a future where every entrepreneur owns these truths:

I can do it

I have the capital

I have the knowledge

I have the connections

It’s going to take a nation to achieve this goal in a decade.

The Decade Project is working to increase ownership opportunities for BIPOC and female entrepreneurs across the country. Help us unlock our country’s full potential. Together, we can do this.
